Black holes are a topic of mystery, and discovery by scientists changes what the world thinks about this marvelous creation leading us to the question: should we be more scared now than ever?
Black holes aren’t fully known to humans even to scientists but according to the official website of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, or NASA, a black hole is a place in space where gravity pulls so much that even the light itself cannot get out. The gravity inside black holes is very strong because matter has been squeezed and fits into a tiny space. Black holes are able to form when a star is dying. Because the light cannot get out, people are not able to see black holes, in shorter terms, they are almost considered invisible. “Why almost?”, you may ask. Well, black holes can only be seen with space telescopes with special tools. These special tools can see how stars that are relatively close to black holes act differently than other stars that are far from black holes.
You may ask how big black holes are. They can be both big and small. Scientists have thought that the smallest black holes are just as small as one atom, which could be very very, very tiny and of course, it would most probably be impossible for people to even take a glimpse of it. These super tiny black holes may be tiny but their mass could be of a huge mountain. In case you forgot, mass is the amount of matter in an object. One kind of black hole is called a stellar, a word you probably heard somewhere randomly. The mass of a star could reach up to 20 times more than the mass of the sun which would be (1.989 × 10^30 kg) times 20. Because the Earth’s galaxy, the Milky Way, is not very easy to discover and explore, there could be a whole lot of stellar-mass black holes out there, most of which have not yet been discovered. Another type of black hole is called the supermassive.
