On 12 May, the European Southern Observatory (ESO) and the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) project held a press conference to present the first ever image of Sagittarius A*, the black hole at the centre of our galaxy.
The first part of this video contains the press conference itself where the image was unveiled, and where a panel of EHT researchers explained the result and answered questions from journalists.
The press conference was followed by a musical act by members of Arcade Fire, who performed two songs from their new album WE, including “End of the Empire IV (Sagittarius A*)”.
Finally, ESO also hosted a live question and answer session where members of the public had the opportunity to query another panel of EHT experts.
