Blackholes

Naperastro, June 2022 Program: Listening to Black Holes — Astronomy with Gravity Waves

Since gravity waves were first detected in 2015, over 80 instances of black holes or neutron stars merging have been “heard” by gravity wave detectors. These events have gone from being singular curiosities to start to become numerous enough to provide the level of observational data needed to allow gravity wave observation to take its place alongside observation in the electromagnetic spectrum in observational astronomy.
In this presentation, Dr. Maya Fishbach of Northwestern University/CIERA and the LIGO Scientific Collaboration brings us up to date with the advances in the fascinating field of gravity wave astronomy.
