The #SpaceTime Capsule made it to Proxima Centauri, the closest star to our Sun and part of the Alpha Centauri system. A cosmic neighborhood made out of two more stars orbiting 0.2 light years away from the red ball of plasma.

Although it orbits the unstable Proxima, Proxima b is a 1.3 Earth mass planet orbiting its star at about 1/20th of the Sun-Earth distance, which places it well within the so-called Habitable (Goldilocks) Zone. It receives an amount of energy from its central star that is about 2/3 of that received by the Earth from the Sun. Data suggest the planet is in synchronous rotation (like the Moon around the Earth), and is seen as a distant observer would do during one full orbit. Another model is that it is trapped in a so-called 3:2 resonance (a natural frequency for the orbit).
We’ll have to keep looking up because it may well be the first world ever visited outside our system.
