The Sound of Two Neutron Stars Colliding
In this video, you are going to hear the sound of two neutron stars colliding! This is the first time, scientists have directly detected gravitational waves – ripples in space and time – in addition to light from the spectacular collision of two neutron stars. To get these sounds, astronomers used the U.S.-based Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory (LIGO), funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF); the Europe-based Virgo detector; and some 70 ground- and space-based observatories.
